The essential Ambrosini
Within a team AC Milan, which now points to second place in Serie A after Sunday's success against Juventus Turin (0-3), Massimo Ambrosini connects the benefits of high class for several weeks. Rossoneri captain since the retirement of Paolo Maldini this summer, the midfielder remains at 32 years, an undeniable element of the system introduced by Leonardo.
Milan, January 6 last. The Genoa is humiliated (5-2) by AC Milan. Ronaldinho's teammates included two penalties received during the meeting, each consecutive time a foul on Massimo Ambrosini. A new proof-if it must, the essential role played by the number 23 in Milan.
The midfielder placed before the defense shines this season with the 4-3-3 concocted by Leonardo, including alongside Andrea Pirlo, he is the "bodyguard" of record. Important also off the field, the native of Pesaro was appointed this summer Rossoneri captain following the retirement of Paolo Maldini. A "real honor" recognizes there. And above all, a true appreciation for one who has taken several years to successfully within a club he joined in 1995.
Teaching indisputable since ... three seasons.
Ambrosini was only 18 when he joined the great AC Milan in the mid ninety, after having played only one season in the pros in Serie B, the colors of the AC Cesena club trainer. After fretting for two years on the bench, he was loaned in 1997 in Vicenza. This will only unfaithful to his red and black jersey. In the shadow of the legendary Demetrio Albertini, he will continue to make its ranges, with forming a duo Gennaro Gattuso one of the most promising. Selected for Euro 2000 with Italy, the play including the last half hour of the final against France (1-2).
The result is much less rosy. Plagued by injuries, Ambrosini will take several years to find his best level and above his starting berth in midfield Milan. However, Carlo Ancelotti, who arrived on the Rossoneri bench in 2001, has always believed in the potential of the player. This is now the coach of Chelsea, which will restart at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season. A second chance qu'Ambrosini not let go.
Under contract until 2011
Sunday in the victory against Juventus (3-0), the Italian international, which displays 35 selections to the counter (the last being on June 22, 2008) was again one of the most players for its team, justifying the nickname given to him by the press Transalpine, which compares to Lupine for her willingness to "steal" the ball to his opponent. Second in Serie A thanks to this success, the Rossoneri are still at a respectable distance from Inter Milan, first with eight points. But nothing is settled yet in the race for the Scudetto, as the Rossoneri have a game less than their larger rivals. Nevertheless, Ambrosini acknowledged Sunday in columns Tuttosport that "there will be no great thing to do" if José Mourinho's men continue this momentum.
In cases where the prognosis is confirmed in the coming weeks, the club captain of the Lombard city can still take his revenge next season. It has indeed extended its lease for a season with his club still, with whom he has become bound up in June 2011.
